Step-by-Step
is a Dance Group established to give youngsters
with special needs and disabilities a regular club to enjoy dance and music every
week with a trained dance therapist in a safe but fun setting. This
group was formed in 2002 by one of our "Outburst" parents
- Maria Dunkley - who continues to run the group with her dedicated group of young
and enthusiastic volunteers. This was because her own daughter, Helen, has severe
epilepsy and was unable to go out to local discos or dance groups because of her
condition. Step-by-Step meets every Monday during term time at St Peter's
School hall in Cowfold from 5.30pm - 6.30 pm. There are now many youngsters all
needing special support who regularly attend, together with their volunteers who
partner them for the hour, providing their parents with a short break.
As
well as attending weekly sessions, the group are able to attend performances,
such as a local productions of "Saturday Night Fever" and "Grease" at the Hawth
Theatre, the tickets being very kindly funded by our many supporters.
The youngsters continue to grow in confidence and thoroughly look forward to their
sessions every week. They regularly participate at at the Blue Oasis
dance events at the Drill Hall in Horsham, which is testimony to their ability
and enjoyment.
